surfers, what is a traction pad?
i'm a beginner surfer and right now i'm trying to learn as much as i can about surfing .
and i am so confused on a traction pad
what does it do?
It's a neoprene pad glued to the deck of your board, at the tail. It provides "traction" so your back foot stays put when doing some of the more radical maneuvers. It has a tread pattern, and generally is believed to provide better traction than just plain wax. You would use one on a performance board, but it is not appropriate for a long board, or fun-shape (mini-mal).
Though it may seem incredibly unlikely, the future of the Internet will be a future untethered. Within the next decade, Web surfers will not be stuck behind their cumbersome desktop computers, or forced to lug around their heavy and unwieldy laptops. The future of the Internet is the future of mobility, of portability, of having the entire world cradled in the palm of your hand. And WiMax is the power that will bring it to you. What is WiMax? It is the integrated wireless Internet network that will work as the foundation of 4G, bringing "ultra broadband" Internet service to subscribers wirelessly. But how will WiMax accomplish this sweeping sea change in the world of Internet service providers?
Speed
WiMax will offer nearly incomparable speed for processing and transferring data. The only thing that would be faster is fiber optic Internet, and there are enough problems with fiber optics to prevent such a system from ever gaining traction in the marketplace. The current generation of wireless Internet achieves data transfer speeds of a maximum of nearly 50 megabits per second, under perfect conditions, which almost never happen. That bit rate for WiFi is only achievable under laboratory conditions. With WiMax, average bit rate speeds will surpass 70 megabits per second, which can be broken down and divided between all users on a given system. This means that speeds won't be slowed to a crawl during peak use times, which is a major drawback of cable Internet service.
Bandwidth
WiMax will also offer an infinite level of bandwidth, since it is unhindered by cables or wires. Wireless Internet transmissions work differently than signals sent through wires. This adds great potential for future technology upgrades, and WiMax will be the engine of these developments.
Distance
The greatest advantage to the WiMax system is that it broadcasts its signal at much greater distances than current wireless Internet technology allows. The chief reason that wireless Internet hasn't already taken off is because of the severe limitations of range for current transmitters and networks. With WiMax, wireless Internet will have the same range as cell phone transmissions, meaning the effective service area for a single transmitter is miles, rather than feet.
Integration
WiMax will also allow for full integration of your Internet access, meaning that the same account can be accessed through your desktop computer, your laptop, your television, and your mobile device. This integration will allow for the streaming of full, feature length movies, online gaming, music, news-gathering and so much more. The best part is, you will be able to accomplish all of this on the same network, through the same account, with no slow down in performance. Also, through integration, you will be able to access any device on your personal network through any other device. Say you are at the office, and an important presentation that you need immediately is on your home desktop computer. Through a fully integrated WiMax network, you will be able to retrieve this file through your mobile Internet device, or through your work computer, allowing you to email the file to yourself or to transfer it directly.
