Have life vests ever been used successfully to save lives in plane crashes?

Every time you go on a flight you see these demonstrations of how to use the life vests, but when there is an accident perhaps either there's no chance to use them or they are useless. Has there been any case where someone survived a plane crash BECAUSE of wearing a life vest (I don't mean someone was found alive in a life vest. I mean someone was alive BECAUSE OF IT--without the vest he'd be dead.)
